Activist and Busia Senator-elect Okiya Omtatah now claims there may have been 508,697 ghost voters that voted for the presidency in the August 9 general election.

Omtatah also said at least 1,665,412 people voted after 5 pm on the election day according to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) data in the KIEMS kits.

"These additional votes that were registered on August 10th are not acceptable," he said.

He said the recorded votes on August 10 exceeded the final vote difference between Raila Odinga and William Ruto.

Omtatah questions result transmission

He further questioned why some KIEMS kits were still transmitting results 23 hours after the polls had been closed.

Omtatah's concerns came at a time when the Supreme Court had already ordered IEBC to open its servers for scrutiny.

"That IEBC is compelled to give the applicants supervised access to any server(s) at the National Tallying Centre for storing and transmitting voting information and which are forensically imaged to capture a copy of the Form 34C which is the total votes cast," the court ordered during its pre-trial conference on Tuesday, August 9.

The electoral body has since opened the servers.

"Following the Supreme Court order, @IEBCKenya has granted access to the parties to access the servers and the scrutiny exercise is ongoing," the commission said on Twitter on Wednesday, August 31.
