He may not be a household name, but the man President Uhuru Kenyatta banks on to steer the economy after dismissing Dr Kamau Thuge is not a stranger to finance.

Besides teaching finance and public policy to graduate students at the Strathmore School of Business, Dr Julius Monzi Muia has been the National Treasury and Planning Principal Secretary.

Given his one-and-half years at the Treasury, he is likely to stabilize operations following the crisis that befell the ministry after its two top officials were arrested and charged with graft.

Dr Muia has previously held high-profile government jobs, including serving as the Director-General of Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat for a little over a year starting in November 2016.

The University of Nairobi PhD graduate also served as the chief executive of the National Economic and Social Council for eight years from 2008 and 2016, according to his LinkedIn profile.

In the LinkedIn profile, Dr Muia says he was a star student and received several awards for academic excellence while at the university where he graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Accounting.

He is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Public Secretary, chartered arbitrator and an Associate Kenya Institute of Bankers.
