President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday, July 24, announced the appointment of Labour minister Ukur Yatani as the interim cabinet secretary in the Ministry of the National Treasury.

Yatani’s appointment follows the suspension of Henry Rotich, who is fighting corruption charges over the Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal.

In the dams scandal, the Kenyan taxpayer allegedly lost Ksh19 billion due to fraudulent procurement processes.

Dr Julius Muonzi Muia replaces Kamau Thugge as the principal secretary in the Treasury Ministry.

Thugge and Rotich are among 28 suspects accused of orchestrating the Arror and Kimwarer dams saga.

The new Treasury PS, Muia, formerly held the position of Principal Secretary in charge of State Department for Planning in the National Treasury Ministry.

Muia is replaced by Torome Saitoti.

Major General Gordon Kihalangwa, who was the Immigration Principal Secretary, has been appointed as the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Defence.

The new appointments were announced Wednesday afternoon by State House spokesperson Kanze Dena.
