A somber mood has engulfed a village in Mbeere North sub-county after a 32-year-old high school teacher took his own life in a suspected case of love gone sour.

Dennis Mwaniki Njeru alias Mukono is believed to have committed suicide in his house in Siakago on the night of Monday, February 5, 2024, after being jilted by his girlfriend.

In an action that has left a whole country puzzled, the deceased left behind a suicide note expressing his frustration after failing to get a solution for his distressing situation.

Police also recovered a chemical suspected to be an insecticide from Njeru's house.

According to Mbeere North sub-county police commander Eric Yego, the teacher had locked himself in his house and authorities had to break into the house to recover the body. He was found lying on his bed with blood and white foam oozing from his nose.

The officers also found land title deeds and stamps which the police believe the suspect was using to defraud members of the public.

''We suspect the teacher was involved in defrauding people of their land. We found title deeds and stamps,'' he said.

Mwaniki, in his suicide note, described his final wishes including his desire to be buried on Valentine's Day on February 14 in a different place from where he was living.

He said his wish was to be buried at Kavengero in Kanyuambora instead of Siakago where he is said to have built a house.

Interestingly, Njeru gave out the details of his girlfriend directing that she reads his eulogy during the burial day.

For his family to get an inheritance, the deceased teacher tasked his family to find out whether he had any children whom he directed be allocated a share of his property.

The suicide note also indicated that Speaker of Embu County Assembly Josiah Thiriku and Nthawa Ward Member of County Assembly Sammy Tito be the ones to organise for Njeru's sendoff.

The teacher instructed that the two make sure a picture that he left behind was included in the burial programme.

Investigations

Sleuths are now investigating Njeru's claims that he tried talking to 17 people to find a solution to his problems in vain.

Detectives are analysing his mobile phone data to determine if there is any information related to the events leading to his suicide.

In his suicide note, the teacher also said he had attempted to reconcile with his girlfriend but in vain.

''I may look stupid but I have shared my stress with 17 people none talked to me let's meet in heaven,'' part of the suicide note read.

Njeru was last seen in Embu town on Monday evening.

Some of his friends who tried reaching him through his phone said the phone went unanswered the whole night and the following day before his lifeless body was found in his house in Siakago.
