Police have arrested the main suspect in the murder of Ida Odinga's bodyguard.
Collins Oulo Okundi was arrested in Eldoret on Sunday, October 16, 2022 after four days of searching.
At the time of his arrest, police recovered a pistol believed to have been used to kill Ida's bodyguard, Barack Onyango Oduor.
Police say the suspect is currently cooling his heels in a police cell within Eldoret before his transportation to Kisumu.
"Yes, he has been arrested but he is still in Eldoret," Nyanza regional police commander Karanja Muiruri said.
Ida's bodyguard shot dead
The suspect who is a manager at a club in Kisumu allegedly shot the deceased in Victoria Gardens Estate, Riat area within Kisumu County.
Sources said the suspect raided his house around 4:00 am in the morning.
Upon reaching the estate, the suspect suddenly appeared and a scuffle ensued between them.
"In the process, the suspect disarmed the police officer and fatally shot him twice in the head and leg. His friend Donar Kajwang was also shot in the leg," a police statement stated.
The deceased was reportedly in the company of a woman and his friend and had escorted them home.
