Siaya: Three more rescued from Abimbo goldmine, six days later

Three more workers have been rescued from Abimbo goldmine that collapsed on Thursday, December 2.

Abimbo is located in Siaya County.

According to the the Deputy County Commissioner Richard Karani, the three were rescued at 2:30 am today and rushed to Bondo Sub-County hospital.

While confirming that a total of six people have so far been rescued, Karani revealed that one died and his body retrieved.

It is believed that one more person is still trapped inside the shaft, one week into the search.

One of the survivors identified as Bernard Ochieng' who was rescued on Sunday says he had warned his colleagues that the shaft would collapse but they dismissed him as a little boy.

"I warned them that the mine would collapse but they dismissed me as a little boy," said Ochieng'.
