Major General Fatuma Ahmed among officers promoted in new KDF appointments

President William Ruto has today, Friday, May 26, 2023, promoted Major General Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed to Senior Directing Staff Air.

In a statement signed by the Director of Public Communications Ministry of Defence, Bogita Ongeri, the Head of State noted that Fatuma was posted to the National Defence College.

According to Ongeri, the appointments were made with advice from the Defence Council.

"His Excellency Dr William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander In Chief of the Defence Forces has today, on the advice of the Defence Council chaired by Hon Aden Duale Cabinet Secretary for Defence made the following promotions, postings, and appointments," the statement read in parts.

Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed became Kenya's first woman to attain a Major General rank in Kenya Defence Forces in 2015 during former President Uhuru Kenyatta's regime.

Prior to the appointment she had served as the first female brigadier in the country.

She has served as Battalion Second in Command (BN 2IC), Staff Officer II Audit Personnel and Records, a Colonel Personnel at the Kenya Air Force Headquarters and Managing Director of the Defence Forces Medical Insurance Scheme.

Other appointments

Ruto also promoted Brigadier Dennis Nyaga Njue Kamuri to Major General and appointed Managing Director of Kenya Ordnance Factories Corporation.

Others include: Brigadier Mohamed Nur Hassan who was promoted to Major General and appointed as General Officer Commanding Border Security Command.

Colonel Sylvester Kipkorir Chirchir who was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Deputy Director Directorate of National Security Industries.

Similarly, Colonel Mathew Lilita Lenamunai was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander Kahawa Garrison while Colonel Joseph Kaku Mutua was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander Construction Engineers Brigade.

Colonel Gilliad Mwachala Kimonge was promoted to Brigadier and named Chief of Operations, Defence Headquarters.

Additionally, Colonel Titus Gitamo Sokobe was promoted to Brigadier and made Chief of Infrastructure Defence Headquarters.

Colonel Omari Mohammed Rajab was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Deputy Managing Director of Kenya Ordnance Factories Corporation.

Colonel Peter Kipketer Limo has also been promoted to Brigadier and appointed as the Managing Director Defence Forces Canteen Organization.

Colonel Oscar Kizito Muleyi was promoted to Brigadier and appointed as Director Centre for Security and Strategic Studies National Defence University - Kenya.

Also promoted are: Colonel Oswald Oduor Opiyo who was promoted to Brigadier. He will also continue serving as the Director of Uhuru Gardens National Monument and Museum.

Colonel Roba Bonaya Wario was promoted to Brigadier and deployed to the Office of the National Security Advisor and Major General Rashid Abdi Elmi was appointed Commandant and posted to National Defence College.

Major General John Maison Nkoimo was also promoted to Commandant and posted to Kenya Military Academy while Major General Eric Mbugua Kinuthia was appointed Commandant and posted to the Joint Command and Staff College.

Major General Charles Muriu Kahariri was appointed Deputy Commandant and Senior Directing Staff Navy, National Defence College.
