Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga has defended former President Uhuru Kenyatta over claims that he was the reason for the economic challenges and the high cost of living during his regime.
While addressing residents in Luanda, Raila affirmed that the President William Ruto-led administration is clueless in addressing problems bedevilling Kenyans. He noted that the current regime only made empty promises to lure electorates out of selfish interests.
He additionally pointed out that the current administration never had intentions of growing the country's economy owing to the high prices of goods and commodities currently witnessed in the country.
"Walisema watateremsha bei ya Unga, imerudi chini? Walisema bei ya mafuta itarudi chini imerudi chini? Si kila kitu imeenda juu juu sivyo? Kwa hivyo sisi tunawaambia hawa majamaa walikua wanafanya porojo pekeee yake. Walikua hawana nia ya kujenga uchumi wetu; Ushuru imeongezwa katika kila kitu. Kila kitu hawa majamaa wanadai ushuru hapa na pale. Walikua wanasema Uhuru alileta shida, si ameenda nyumbani, mmeona afueni?" he posed.
Raila further assured residents that the Azimio brigade will ensure that the economic challenges are addressed as soon as possible.
In a sly dig aimed at the Kenya Kwanza government, Raila further affirmed that, unlike Ruto's administration which was clueless about their promises, the Azimio brigade had a clear structure on where to get money for the 'pesa mfukoni' initiative that would have helped poor Kenyans.
"Sisi tuliwaahidi shilingi elfu sita, tulijua mpango pali pesa itatoka, hawa majamaa hawakua na mpango yoyote walikua wanadanganya watu ati hustler, hustler ameenda wapi sasa, si ni upumbavu hio?" he added.
