Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga has defended the late Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Francis Ogolla against claims that he attempted to manipulate the 2022 election results.

Speaking during the general's memorial at Ulinzi Sports Complex stadium in Lang'ata, Nairobi, Raila mourned him as a Kenyan patriot and watered down allegations that Ogolla was involved in the chaos and disruptions witnessed at the Bomas of Kenya during the announcement of the 2022 general election results.

"Because of the manner that rumours have been flying we want them to be put to rest, and this can only happen if there is a thorough investigation to tell us the cause of the death and how that plane came down, but also your excellency this is also time to take a look at our equipment and our military because we have seen a number of these accidents, we want to put this to an end to prevent accidents.

"As we lay Ogolla to rest tomorrow, I want us to remove this stigma cause I know this man very well, General Ogolla would have never contemplated or thought about going to Bomas of Kenya to force Mr Chebukati to alter the results of the last general elections. We want this to be removed as we lay him to rest," Raila said.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader also showered praises on the fallen general saying he served the country dutifully and diligently with utmost love.

"By his conduct, Ogolla showed that he loved his country and was prepared to serve and die on behalf of this country. We take comfort in listening to his son talk about him and when I saw Joel talk there, I said this is a case of the general. We saw how simple the general was.

I know him as a man of very few words, he has served, and mentored, very many of our young Kenyans. He believed in the Kenyan dream which is coined in our national anthem, God bless this land of ours justice be our shield and defender….Justice can only be achieved if there is democracy then we will live in unity," Raila added.
