A 12-year-old grade six girl, a pupil at Chelambut primary school in Kipyaor location in Tinderet, Nandi County died following an accident while grinding maize at a posho mill.

According to a statement by Kapkatet village elder Francis Koskei, the girl was dressed in Maasai leso which is suspected to have gotten stuck on the running belt on the engine wheel which led to her being hauled before she hit the mechanical parts causing her death.

"It was at around 7:15 pm when we got information that a 12-year-old girl, who was milling at the posho mill, was found dead. I went to the site with the chief and confirmed that she was dead.

"We suspect that the engine belt pulled the Maasai shuka that she was wearing, killing her on the spot. She was a grade six pupil at Chelambut primary," the village elder said.

Police officers from Songhor Soba station picked up the body and took it to the mortuary as investigations into the girl's death began.

"We don't want to say much but the police will unravel what really happened after their investigation is completed. It is so sad to lose such a young girl. We express our condolences to the family," the village elder added.
