Anne Adhiambo alias Nut, the woman accused of killing Nairobi Hospital Acting Finance Director Eric Maigo has pleaded guilty.

Adhiambo, who was identified as an adult, admitted the offence before High Court Judge Kanyi Kimondo on Thursday, October 26, 2023.

This is after the court clerk read to her three times the offence she is alleged to have committed in Swahili.

The judge, however, warned the accused against the consequences of pleading guilty.

He asked the accused if she knew the allegations levelled against her and she agreed with a 'Ndio (Yes)' in Swahili.

The judge, however, gave the accused more time to consult with her lawyers.

"In the interest of justice, I have given her time to consult with her advocates before pleading again", the judge said.

The judge directed that the accused, who is being represented by lawyer Samuel Ayora, be remanded at Langata Women's Prison until November 8, 2023, when she will be taken to another judge at Kibera Law Courts to plead afresh to the murder charge.

On Wednesday, Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe marked the miscellaneous file as closed after the prosecution said they had concluded their investigations against the suspect.

The court directed the matter to be handled by the High Court at a plea-taking stage.

Last week, police were allowed to continue detaining the prime suspect citing that she was facing a serious offence.

While granting the request, the court said it was crucial that police conclude investigations as the CCTV footage was yet to be analysed.

"I allow the prosecution to continue holding the suspect for 7 more days as DNA samples from the blood-stained clothes from the suspect is yet to be concluded", the magistrate said.

Adhiambo has been in police custody for almost a month as police sought to investigate the death of Maigo.

She was arrested on September 26, at the Olympic area within Kibera.

A miscellaneous application filed by Corporal Patrick Boge said that she was arrested following a report of murder at Woodly Annex in Kibra within Kilimani.

The officer told the court that on September 15, a report was made by one Amina Komara at Kibra police station that there was a commotion at house number 6 Woodley Estate Annex Upper of Kibra.

He said a team of police officers from Kilimani sub-county visited the crime scene and established that the deceased aged 37, was lying with 25 stab wounds on the chest, face and neck and secured the scene.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was in the company of the respondent herein before he was found murdered where she is suspected to have attacked the deceased while armed with kitchen knives," the court was told," the court was told.

Boge said investigations indicate that Adhiambo was among the group that orchestrated the violence which resulted in the death of the deceased.

The police officers who visited the crime scene did recover the murder weapons.

"The continued detention of the respondent is immensely necessary for the furtherance and finalising of the investigations, his release could further lead to interference with the investigation," Boge said in his affidavit.

He added that he was yet to record statements from the key witnesses, take fingerprints, do photo profiling, ascertain her previous criminal record, take the respondent for DNA sampling for analysis by the government chemist, trace and arrest respondent associates.

The officer said he also needed to escort the suspect for mental assessment/age assessment and subject her to a medical examination to ascertain injuries inflicted when escaping from the crime scene.
