Police recover firearm lost after gunmen shot officer escorting KCSE exam papers in Siaya

Authorities have recovered two firearms lost in a recent shooting in Siaya where one officer was also killed.

In the Monday, November 20, 2023, incident, gunmen attacked two police officers escorting KCSE papers to Mahero Secondary School in Siaya County.

During the incident, one of the officers lost his life while the other sustained serious injuries.

An update by the National Police Service through the official X account stated that the MP5 and AK47 Rifles were recovered at Hawinga from a residential house.

In the process, authorities say, the main suspect managed to escape and at least two suspects were fatally wounded.

"NPS officers have recovered the two firearms lost this week where one NPS Officer was killed and the other seriously injured while escorting KCSE papers to Mahero Secondary School in Siaya County. The MP5 and AK47 Rifle were recovered at Hawinga from the house of Sheikh Rashid who escaped the police dragnet, while two suspects were fatally wounded," the statement reads in parts.
