A police officer attached to Nyamache police station in Kisii County has been arrested for allegedly breaking into his colleagues' houses and stealing valuable items.

Robert Rono was arrested on Saturday after he was spotted at the station.

"Rono was arrested following an outcry from fellow police officers of housebreaking and stealing of household items in their houses in the police line," police statement seen by K24 Digital read in part.

After his arrest, his house was searched and several stolen items were recovered.

"The OCS ordered a search to be done in his house and the following items were recovered: itel phone black in colour model it5081, four rolls of cannabis sativa, six different types of keys, TV aerial jack pin, Kenya police patch, two equity ATM cards with two different names of one Erick Chweya and another Frederick Gichugu, Nakumatt master card serial number 52463400482011 with the name of pc (w) Linet Obanda who is among the complainants, Kenyan national identity card number 31370416 belonging to George Nyambuto Osoro and nine unused Airtel sim cards with different phone numbers," the statement added.

The suspect is being held at Nyangusu police station and he is due to appear in court on Monday July 12.

"He will be arraigned for being in possession of cannabis sativa (bhang) and a series of burglaries within police line. The Nyamache DCI office is investigating theft cases linking to items found in his house," the statement concluded.
