Police officers in Nakuru on Wednesday afternoon nabbed a 25-year-old woman suspected to have ended the life of her ailing four-year-old child.

Faith Chepkorir is accused of murdering and dumping the body of the girl into a pit latrine in Kuresoi South in Nakuru County.

Stephen Korir, a village elder in the region said that they questioned Chepkorir on the whereabouts of the child after rumour went around that she might have killed her but she refused to give details of the incident.

"She recently parted ways with her husband and has been issuing threats that she might harm the baby. When questioned she kept denying that she did not know where the child was," Korir said.

However, she could later accept that things were not okay when police officers and villagers recovered the lifeless body of the minor from a 7-foot latrine.

Initially, Chepkorir had tried to go into hiding but was captured by villagers who even took her photos and shared them on social media platforms.

Her hands were tied to the back as the locals awaited for the police to pick her.

The deceased body was taken to the Olenguruone Funeral home while the suspect is held at Kuresoi police station.

Henry Nyaranga who is the Kuresoi Sub-County police boss said that investigations into the matter had started.
