A man is being held by police officers in Tanzania for abducting and killing his 28-year-old lover and later burying her body.

The 30-year-old man, whose identity has been concealed, is a resident of Bukombe district in Geita Province.

Confirming the incident, Geita Provincial Commissioner Henrey Mwaibambe said the suspect picked the deceased Esta John from their home on the fateful day in the guise of going to spend the night with her as usual.

According to Tanzania-based radio Wasafi Fm, upon arrival at his home, the suspect allegedly told the woman to call her parents and ask them to refund back the money he spent on her for the longest period they have been in a romantic relationship.

Mwaibambe told the press that the suspect said they had agreed with the deceased that they will get married and that is why he spent a good amount of his money on her only to learn that she has been unfaithful.

Police says the suspect failed to agree with the deceased on the issue leading to the murder incident.

The suspect is said to have later buried the body of the deceased in the neighboring Masota village in the same district.

The provincial commander says the suspect will be arraigned once investigations are complete.
