Three police officers were on Tuesday, December 8 arrested by their colleagues after they released suspects who were arrested for violating COVID-19 safety regulations in Karen, Nairobi County.

K24 Digital has established that Samuel Shitanda of Service Number 63352, Godfrey Mbogo of Service Number 107972 and Isaac Hassan of Service Number 105699, were arrested after they released the suspects who were being taken to Hardy Police station.

The three officers, who were being led by one Benjamin Okoth, were conducting patrol on Lang’ata Road on Monday midnight when they noticed that one bar known as Redbrick was operating way past the stipulated business hours.

The cops raided the facility, arrested several revellers and bundled them into a waiting police van.

The suspects were to be booked at Hardy Police Station.

Shitanda, Mbogo and Hassan were left to watch after the suspects as their colleagues went to Tamasha Bar and Restaurant, which was still open, to effect more arrests.

The three cops, however, decided to release the suspects.

When the other police officers returned with more suspects, they were shocked to find the police vehicle empty, with the nabbed revellers nowhere to be seen.

After a fierce verbal exchange between the officers, Shitanda, Mbogo and Hassan were handcuffed and taken to Hardy Police Station, where they were booked with the offence of negligence.

The trio will be arraigned once investigations are concluded.
