Police in Murang'a have launched a manhunt for a man believed to have killed his brother Sunday evening September 18, 2022.

The suspect Amos Irungu aged 30, is said to have stabbed his brother Moses Mwaura several times leading to his death.

Drama is said to have started when Irungu stormed into Mwaura's house and started hurling insults at the latter's wife and children. He later dashed to his house to pick a panga with the intent to attack them.

Mwaura's wife Mercy Njeri dashed out of the house raising an alarm which attracted other family members and the residents who came to her rescue.

"I was feeding the children when he came in fuming with anger and started insulting us" she said.

"When I saw him coming with a panga, I ran out leaving the kids behind and he started chasing me around luckily I was saved," she added.

Puzzled by the turn of events, Njeri called her husband who was in the nearby Ihumbu shopping centre.
She says the two brothers engaged in a physical fight for some sometime before the residents managed to separate them.

After things cooled down, Mwaura went back to the shopping centre but on his way back he was attacked by the brother who was hiding in the coffee bushes.

"We heard him pleading with the brother not to kill him but this fell on deaf ears because we stabbed him several times cutting deep into his body," Njeri said.

Mwaura died while being rushed to Maragua hospital for treatment.

Alice Waithira, the mother of the two brothers, said it was not the first time Irungu had attempted to kill a family member as he once tried to stab his father.

The mother says the son has been under the influence of bhang and alcohol which she blamed as the cause of his outrageous behaviour.

"There was a time I found him trying to attack his father and I stood in between them and he backed out," she said.

The family members say they have been living in fear of being attacked by the suspect as he has been giving them sleepless nights.

"We urge the police to quickly track him because he might come back and attack any of us," Waithira said.
