28-year-old James Baariu Rungai has been arrested after he sodomised a boy in Mikinduri town, Meru County.

Anjuki area chief Jacob Michuki Mutiga who confirmed the incident said that Rungai was caught red-handed while sodomizing the 16-year-old boy whom he had locked in his house.

The chief revealed that upon entering the house they found the suspect sweating while the boy was naked.

Mutiga raided Rungai's house in the company of Nyumba Kumi members after receiving information from members of the public about the suspect's activities.

He said the suspect had been sodomizing the boy and locking him in his house from the outside with a padlock.

The chief noted that Rungai locked the teenager inside his house for three days without giving him any food.

The boy informed police that the suspect lured him into his house having enticed him with food. The teen comes from a poor family that struggles to have basic needs like food.

The 16-year-old said that he lives with his mother in the Mikinduri slums and that they usually sleep hungry.

The suspect took advantage of the boy's situation to prey on him.

He told authorities that once he to into Rungai's house he locked it from the inside and picked up a machete before ordering him to undress.

The teen noted that the suspect threatened to cut him into pieces and dump his body in a pit latrine if he dared to raise the alarm.

The chef noted that he received several complaints that the suspect had sodomised a handful of teenage boys in the Mikinduri area.

Police have since urged all victims as well as their parents to record their statements with the area Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) office so that the suspect could be preferred with all the charges before he is arraigned in court.
