A middle-aged man and his wife died after they were involved in a grisly car crash at Kongoini area on the Murang’a-Kwa Thamaki Road last Sunday, August 4.

Pastor Peter Njuguna of Trinity Church died on Sunday afternoon upon admission to the Murang’a Level 5 Hospital.

His spouse, Nancy Wanjiku, died on Tuesday morning (August 6) at the Kenyatta National Hospital, where she was receiving treatment after sustaining serious injuries in the accident.

Pastor Njuguna, who was at the wheel, lost control when he attempted to avoid hitting a female pedestrian, causing the car to hit a pavement and roll over several times.

Also in the vehicle were the couple’s two children, a Form Four student and a class six pupil, who survived the crash.

The Form Four student, a boy, suffered broken limbs, whereas the pupil, a girl, sustained burns.

The four, who were driving from Murang’a Town, were headed for a church service at Kambirwa area, when the accident occurred.

The couple’s first child, Gloria Wambua, who is a Fourth-Year university student, said she “lacks words” to express the pain of losing both parents simultaneously.

Florence Muthoni, who worshipped at Pastor Njuguna’s church, described the deceased man of the cloth as “a strong pillar at Location 20 area”.

Apostle Harrison Macharia of Gospel Embassies Ministries, who claims to have preached alongside Pastor Njuguna since 1991, termed the couple’s deaths as a “big blow to the gospel industry”.

Apostle Macharia urged the Trinity churches to come together and ensure that Pastor Njuguna’s children “are not neglected”.

A resident of Kongoini Village, Peter Kombo, urged the Government to erect bumps on the Murang’a-Kwa Thamaki Road to help prevent such incidents in the future.
