AIDS researcher, Dr Sobbie Mulindi, is dead.

Dr Mulindi, who was ailing since 2017, succumbed to cancer on Tuesday, August 6, in Nairobi.

He has died aged 70.

Dr Mulindi served as the Deputy Director of the National Aids Control Council between 2008 and 2014. He was also a senior lecturer at the University of Nairobi’s psychiatry department.

Amani National Congress Party leader Musalia Mudavadi eulogised Dr Mulindi as a “tireless fighter against HIV/AIDS".

"He shall notably be remembered for his tireless fight against the HIV-Aids scourge in his role as director, National Aids Control Council (NACC), among many other key roles he played," said Mr Mudavadi.

Dr Mulindi will be remembered for, among other achievements, helping to reduce the HIV prevalence rate in Kenya from a high of nearly 30 percent in early 2000s.
