At least 25 MCAs from Trans-Nzoia County on Friday morning (March 27) stormed a strategic meeting on COVID-19 chaired by area Governor Patrick Khaemba, and demanded to know “why the county doesn’t come across as fully prepared to combat the spread of coronavirus”.

The MCAs told the county chief that “it is clear Trans-Nzoia does not have a feasible plan to fight the disease”.

Besides accusing the Khaemba-led government of laxity in the fight against COVID-19, the MCAs questioned why none of them had been incorporated in a committee formed to help battle the disease.

Governor Khaemba and County Commissioner Sam Ojwang did not have justifiable reasons as to why they excluded the ward reps from being part of the committee.

With a resultant impasse witnessed, the governor agreed to incorporate a few MCAs in the anti-coronavirus unit.

On some of the measures his government has taken to battle the spread of COVID-19, Khaemba said health officers in the county fumigated residential places, and that his government encouraged constituents to keep off the town centre.
