Ministry of Health Cabinet Administrative Secretary (CAS) Mercy Mwangangi has sent tongues wagging after her joke during a rally in Awendo, Migori county went viral.

Mwangangi who was accompanying Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga on a tour of the county treated locals to laughter and yearning when she made public her private conversation with Odinga.

"La tatu na la mwisho, nikija hapa na baba (Odinga) ameniahidi kuwa naweza pata bwana huku kwenyu. Nipatieni bwana!" The CAS said to the invitation and ululation of the crowd.

Mwangangi was launching the Kenya Medical Training College campus in Awendo on Thursday, December 2.

In her speech, the CAS urged residents to continue observing COVID-19 health protocols set by the government.

"Coronavirus is still a threat and it is important that we continue wearing our masks and social distance. The vaccine is also important. We need to avail ourselves at medical centers to get the jabs," the CAS said,

In his address, Odinga stated that the opening of the campus marked a new beginning in training of nursing and health personnel in Migori and the country as a whole.

"When your MP (Walter Owino, Migori) invited me to come and witness the opening of this campus, I told him I must come. Provision of quality health service is a fundamental human right. We have cases where our people have died because the hospitals do not have special doctors," Odinga noted.
