Nelson Havi, Beatrice Kones get parastatal jobs

President William Ruto has appointed the former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Nelson Havi as the new Member and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Retirement Benefits Authority for a period of three years.

In a gazette notice dated February 10, 2023, President William Ruto revoked the appointment of Abdirahin H. Abdi who has been at the helm of the authority.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (f) and 6 (a) of the Retirement Benefits Authority Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning appoints— Nelson Havi to be a Member and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Retirement Benefits Authority for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 10th February, 2023. The appointment of Abdirahin H. Abdi is revoked," the gazette notice read in part.

At the same time, National Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung'u has appointed former Bomet East Member of Parliament Beatrice Kones to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Local Authorities Provident Fund for a period of three

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 5 (1) of the Local Authorities Provident Fund Act, as read together with section 51(1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning appoints – Under subsection (a)— Beatrice Kones to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Local Authorities Provident Fund, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 10th February, 2023. The appointment of Haro Guyo Okola is revoked," Ndung'u said.

Kones retires from politics

Kones, who is the wife of former Cabinet Minister the late Kipkalya Kones, retired from active politics last year.

Kipkalya died in a chopper crash alongside then Sotik MP Lorna Laboso in a plane crash on June 10, 2008.

Following his demise, his wife Beatrice was elected to succeed him on an ODM ticket.

Lorna, on the other hand, was succeeded by his sister the late Joyce Laboso who served for two terms before vying for the Bomet gubernatorial seat in the 2017 general election.

Joyce died on July 29, 2019 while serving as Bomet governor.
