Jack Ranguma appointed new Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority board chair

Former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma has been the new Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority board chair for a period of three years.

In a gazette notice dated February 6, 2023, Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development Cabinet Secretary (CS) Simon Chelugui revoked the appointment of George Murathe.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (e) and 6 (1) (a) of the Sacco Societies Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development appoints— Jack Ranguma to be a Member and Chairperson of Board of Directors of the SACCO Societies Regulatory Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from 10th February 2023. The appointment of George Murathe is revoked," the gazette notice read in part.

New KNRA chair

At the same time, President William Ruto has appointed Edick Omondi Anyanga to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority, for a period of three.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 8 (1) of the Nuclear Regulatory Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces of the Republic of Kenya, appoint— Under subsection (a) Edick Omondi Anyanga to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from 10th February, 2023. The appointment of Stephen Mwangi Karanja is revoked," Ruto said in a gazette notice dated February 6, 2023.

The new appointments come after President Ruto visited Nyanza region last month.

The President toured Homa Bay, Kisumu, and Siaya counties where his allies have been on a charm offensive to win the hearts and minds of Raila Odinga supporters.

During his two-day tour of the region, the President launched the first phase of the 5,000 affordable housing programmes in Homa Bay county as well as inspected and launched other projects in the region, including commissioning the newly completed Homa Bay Municipal Market.

The visit also saw him commission the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, Blue Economy Research Hub and met local leaders from both sides of the political divide.
