Police in Nairobi came to the aid of an Ethiopian student who was on the verge of becoming a victim of human trafficking.

Danil Lucamo had been lured to the trap in a well-orchestrated plan disguised as an opportunity to secure a non-existent job in Nairobi.

While appearing before Mkadara Principal Magistrate Ann Wahito, James Wanjohi, the investigating officer told the court that Lucamo was rescued by the Kahawa West OCS who received a tip-off from members of the public.

The officer also requested that the victim is held for 10 days to allow time for the officer in charge of deportation to obtain a repatriation order from the Immigration Department.

Justice Wahito honoured the application and granted permission for the victim to stay in custody awaiting November 4, 2022, when the matter will be mentioned.

Lucamo had been lured into securing the job by his facilitator who later abandoned him.

“It is suspected that the victim was abandoned by their facilitator within Kasarani Sub-County,” Wanjohi stated.

He was forced to hop from one shop to another begging for food and water using sign language due to language barrier.

Members of the public hurriedly notified the police who took him into custody for safety.
