Police in Mombasa County are holding a 35-year old Uber driver for allegedly molesting a 13-year old boy during a ride in Nyali estate.

According to Nyali Sub county Deputy police Commander Ibrahim Dafalla, the incident happened on Monday July 15 when the taxi driver picked the minor from school and headed home.

Mother of the Standard Eight boy, said she had requested her young sister who was at home at that time to call a taxi that would pick up the boy from school to their home in Nyali estate.

According to the Uber request seen by K24 Digital, a blue Nissan Note registration number KCM 867N was requested at 6pm Monday evening at Light Academy in Nyali.

The car is still detained at Nyali Police station.

Her sister claimed the driver allegedly cancelled the ride and parked his vehicle a few meters away from their house where he allegedly molested the boy.

“The driver ended the ride and parked his vehicle a few meters away from our home. He then undressed the boy and molested him. He threatened to kill him in case he informed anyone,” the boy’s aunt said.

"After I saw the trip had been ended I went to the estate gate to pay the taxi.  Upon reaching the gate, there was no car. After about 10 minutes, he arrived and I paid him through Mpesa and left," she added.

She said she could see there was something wrong with the boy after he alighted from the car and headed to the house to “brush” his teeth.

The mother said after she arrived home at around 8pm, the boy narrated to her how the driver had forced him to perform the oral sex on him.

"We took him to Nyali Children Hospital for cross examination, and after several tests we were referred to Coast Provincial General hospital where more examination and counseling were done,” the mother said.

Lucy Mungai, the wife of the driver, who spoke at the police station claimed that the incident was a set up and that her husband was innocent.

“I can’t believe these stories I am hearing because my husband and I are married for over 12 years now and we have a 12 and 4 years old children. How could he do such a thing? This is not true,” claimed Mungai.

The suspect will be arraigned today (Wednesday July 17) at the Shanzu Law Courts.
