Mombasa: Police pursue boda boda rider who allegedly killed his girlfriend’s baby

Police in Mombasa are investigating the death of a two-year-old minor who was allegedly killed by his mother's boyfriend.

According to the minor's father, Jamal Ngala, the deceased identified as Mbarak Jamal is believed to have died on his way to the hospital after he was allegedly battered by his mother's boyfriend.

Jamal to succumbed to his injuries on Sunday while being rushed to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations ( DCI) in Kilifi, are in pursuit of the boda boda rider who is suspected to have been involved in the death of the minor.

Police say that the suspect who is still at large committed the said crime after a disagreement with the mother of the child who was his girlfriend.

The two have been living in a rented house in Mtomondoni area, the outskirts of Mtwapa town.

The mother Hawaa Mohammed is said to have separated from her husband and has been cohabiting with the rider who is suspected to have been abusing the boy since he did not want the minor in his house.

According to a medical report seen by K24 Digital, the boy sustained bruises on the lower limbs, thigh and forehead.

Police say the incident was reported by the father of the deceased and recorded under OB number 69/05/01/2023 at the Mtwapa police station.

Police have summoned both parents of the child to record statements as a manhunt for the suspect intensifies.

The body of the minor has since been interred in accordance with the Muslim rites.
