Kesses Member of Parliament (MP) Swarup Mishra broke into tears after a rousing reception by his constituents during a campaign rally on Tuesday.

Mishra, who is seeking to defend his seat on an independent ticket, could not control his tears after the crowd shouted "Mishra! Mishra! Mishra!".

"I am unapologetically an independent candidate. I am your son, I am your brother, I am your father and we are going to work together," Mishra is heard telling the crowd in a viral video.

Mishra resorted to defending his seat as an independent candidate after falling out with United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party leader William Ruto.

There have been calls from the local UDA leaders to have the MP voted out for being anti-Ruto.

MPs want Mishra out

On Sunday, Emurua Dikir MP Johana Ngeno called for a three-piece suit in Rift Valley.

"Anyone vying as an independent candidate should be treated as an Azimio candidate in Rift Valley. We do not want people who are not supporting our son (Ruto) who is seeking the highest seat in the land," Ngeno said in the local dialect.

Mishra has been a fierce defender of President Uhuru Kenyatta who fell out with his deputy Ruto.

The President is supporting ODM leader Raila Odinga for the presidency in the August 9 general election.

Mishra has, however, not declared the person he is supporting for the presidency.
