South Gem Member of County Assembly (MCA) Brian Chieng' Anyango is currently nursing serious injuries after he was allegedly stabbed during a burial ceremony.

While confirming the incident, Gem sub-county police commander Cecilia Kemboi noted that the MCA was stabbed multiple times after a commotion ensued during the funeral of one Stephen Pinda - a teacher in Rera Village of South Gem ward.

The MCA who was rushed for treatment at the Agha Khan hospital was stabbed by goons in the right arm and on his buttocks. He suffered five stab wounds.

The alleged goons are said to have pounced on the MCA after a mourner was irked by the MCA's remarks during the funeral service. The alleged mourner snatched the microphone from the MCA causing a brawl that led to a bitter confrontation.

"The report was filed at Akala police station at 1730 hours. He was immediately rushed to Agha Khan Hospital in Kisumu following the attack. It was reported that goons ascended on the MCA who caused the injuries using sharp objects," Kemboi stated.

Brian was then rushed to the hospital by one of his colleagues and

A surgeon who spoke on condition of anonymity said the politician is responding well to treatment.

"At the moment, we can only say, he is in stable condition. We have taken him to the theatre to operate and see if one of his kidneys was affected by a sharp object," he said.

Notably, leaders from the assembly led by Siaya County Assembly speaker George Okode have paid Anyango a visit.

Led by area MP Elisha Odhiambo, the leaders cautioned politicians against political hooliganism and called on police to arrest the suspects behind the incident.

"This is really bad. We are calling on the security apparatus to arrest the suspects,'' Odhiambo said.

Brian was elected as MCA on an independent after he garnered 3,569 votes against his archrival Polycarp Wanga of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) who had 3,453 votes.
