Man, 28, suspected of robbing Foreign Affairs director of her Ksh8M vehicle nabbed driving it in Umoja

A 28-year-old man was on Monday evening arrested while driving a stolen vehicle belonging to Foreign Affairs director attached to Europe and Commonwealth Directorate, Ambassador Jean Wambui Kimani.

The special crimes prevention unit officers on Monday 8:30pm nabbed the suspect, Calvin Amangune Amata, driving the car, a white Toyota Prado VX model of registration plate number KCR 009H, in Umoja, Nairobi.

Police had been tracing the vehicle, which was stolen from Jean’s Kilimani home 20 hours earlier.

The suspect attempted to escape, but was apprehended before he could go far, police said.

Several business cards and documents belonging to Jean were also found in Amata’s wallet.

The suspect is being detained at Buruburu police post as investigations into the alleged robbery continue.

It is alleged that Amata and two other men, who were armed with a gun and knives, broke into Jean’s Kilimani house at 12:25am Monday and made away with her vehicle valued at Ksh8 million, her 52-inch TV valued at Ksh40, 000 her Canon printer bought at Ksh30, 000, Jean’s jewelry valued at Ksh300, 000, her three mobile phones (iPhone, Tecno, and Samsung) valued at Ksh60, 000 and her KCB ATM card.

The suspects also stole a phone valued at Ksh3, 500 belonging to Jean’s gardener, Patrick Mwenda.

The suspected gangsters gained entry into Jean’s house after forcing themselves in. They found the victim in the kitchen, where they gagged and tied her hands, threatening to kill her if she screamed for help.

After the robbers left, Jean reported the burglary at Kilimani Police Station.

Kilimani OCPD Michael Muchiri confirmed the incident.
