The family of the late Micheal Jola Ngumbao who is alleged to have been murdered by Gender and Public Service Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa has withdrawn from the murder case, accusing the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji of foul play.
The family through the uncle of the deceased, Reuben Katana now claims that the DPP did not consult them as earlier alleged in terms of compensating them.
Katana stated that he only learned of the termination of the murder charges against Jumwa through the media.
"We were never consulted and no one has ever communicated to us neither the CS nor the DPP as it was widely reported that the family was ready to have the matter settled outside court and that we had agreed as a family to be compensated for the loss of our kin. All we wanted was justice," Katana said.
Further, Katana claimed that the family had expected justice for their deceased kin since they all along knew that the CS was the one who caused the death of Jola.
They say it was Jumwa who took Okuto her bodyguard to their home.
“We know we are poor wand e have nothing to fight her but we know there is God in heaven. We believe he shall avenge the death of our kin. We are totally shocked by the turn of events," he said.
The family has further revealed that they now fear for their lives following the acquittal of Jumwa since she is now a senior government official.
Katana a former Ganda MCA added that the family had instructed their lawyer to have the murder case withdrawn since they were no longer interested in testifying.
"We have written a letter to the DPP indicating that we are no longer interested in the matter and no one of our family members earlier listed as witnesses will give evidence in the matter due to security concerns and our safety," he said.
Jola was killed In November 2019 during the Ganda by-election campaigns when Jumwa and her supporters stormed the home claiming there was an unlawful meeting at the home as the campaign period was over.
On Wednesday high court Judge Anne Onginjo terminated murder charges against Jumwa.
Jumwa is now set to testify against his aide Geoffrey Okutu after the state turned her into a key witness in the murder case.
