Mahi Mahiu-Nairobi road has been closed after a trailer that was ferrying gas burst into flames at Mutarakwa.

Several vehicles caught fire with no casualties reported as everyone involved in the accident was evacuated.

According to a witness identified as David Kamau, the trailer burst into flames when a breakdown had come to lift it after it had overturned at around 6:00 am.

Officers from Mutarakwa Police Post managed to contain the messy situation that had been caused by a huge crowd of people who had dashed to the scene.

“The lorry overturned at around 6:00 am in the morning. Surprisingly, it burst into flames when a breakdown was starting to remove it from the place. Officers from Mutarakwa Police Post arrived in time to contain the situation,” Kamau explained.

“We really do not know what caused the fire because it was a gas trailer and it might have burst due to leakages,” he added.

The police officers are still at the scene to ensure that the fire is fully contained.
