Police in Gigiri, Nairobi, have launched investigations after a machine gun was recovered at a local construction site.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, construction workers working with Malava Construction were excavating a plot when they came across a polythene bag with something that looked like metal wrapped inside.

The manager of the site alerted the police who later discovered a submachine gun loaded with nineteen rounds of ammunition in the bag.

"The manager of Malava Construction company reported that while excavating at construction plot number 214/263 belonging to Neer Chandaria D Ahashon located along Twiga road one worker identified as Maithya discovered a metal covered in a polythene bag," a police report read in part.

Investigations are on to identify the owner of the firearm.

In a separate incident, a police constable was on Sunday, January 8, 2023, arrested after he was found in possession of bhang worth Ksh375,000 in Merti, Marsabit county.

Police officers who were acting on a tip-off laid an ambush at Merti town and arrested Constable David Ochieng of Merti Police station.

The officer had five bales of Cannabis Sativa weighing approximately 25 kilograms in a numberless motorcycle.

The officer was kept in custody and the bales with the motorcycle were kept to be used as exhibits.

"Police officers acting on a tip-off from the public made an ambush visit to Merti town and arrested Police Constable David Ochieng with five bales of Cannabis Sativa weighing approximately 25 kilograms," police said.
