Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has commented on the multi-agency team that is undertaking an operation to restore peace and end ethnic clashes in Marsabit County.
In a meeting with the officers at a camp on Monday, June 6, 2022, the CS said the operation will last until all the illegal weapons are retrieved.

Rejesha Amani Operation was launched on May 2, to restore peace, mop up the illegal weapons and flush out the illegal miners in the Kom area.

There have been no major attacks reported in the area so far after the government announced a dusk to dawn curfew which ended and was extended for 30 more days.
The Marsabit operation has been successful with 120 weapons and 1300 rounds of ammunition which were illegally in the hands of the public so far recovered.
Among the weapons recovered include a general-purpose machine gun, 14 assault rifles, 617 rounds of assorted rounds of ammunition, and some crude weapons.
Drug traffickers and large hauls of cannabis sativa have also been recovered.
The operation is being led by officers from the General Service Unit (GSU) the Quick Response Unit (QRU), the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU), and also the anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU).
