A Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officer has been charged with demanding a bribe from a victim of a crocodile attack to process compensation.
The officer, Jimnah Somore Pertet, is said to have demanded a Ksh50,000 bribe from the victim, according to the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC).
He was arraigned before Garissa Chief Magistrate Stephen Mbunai before being released on a Ksh200,000 bond.

"EACC on Thursday arraigned Jimnah Somore Pertet, a Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officer, before Garissa Chief Magistrate Stephen Mbunai on charges of demanding Ksh50,000 from a victim of a crocodile attack as a condition for executing a claim form to facilitate the victim's compensation for the injuries," EACC stated.
"The accused denied the charges and was released on a bond of Ksh200,000."
The matter will be mentioned on January 30, 2024.
