The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has announced closure of its application portal following the lapse of the set deadline on Monday, March 4, 2024.

In a statement on Tuesday, KUCCPS said the portal had been closed to pave the way for processing of the applicants' choices.

However, all is not lost for candidates who were unable to submit their applications in time as they will have another chance to apply during the first revision of choices.

"The KUCCPS application portal has closed. Another opportunity to apply is coming up, during the first revision of choices," KUCCPS said.

The application exercise, which began on February 7, 2024, was marred by system hitches, forcing the placement authority to postpone the deadline twice.

On Friday, March 1 the government said a joint technical team had managed to address issues affecting processing of applicants' payments on the E-citizen portal.

As a result of the interventions, KUCCPS said, the application success rate had increased rapidly.

"As a result, 22,307 students have submitted their applications successfully on the KUCCPS portal in the last 24 hours. This is the highest number of successful applicants in 24 hours since the process began on February 7, 2024," KUCCPS said.

According to KUCCPS by close of business on March 1, 2024, 144,102 (72.2%) of the 199,695 students who attained a mean grade of C+ and above in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination had applied.

"Based on the application trends of the 2022 KCSE candidates, KUCCPS targets 173,178 (86%) of the students with C+ above to apply for placement this year.

KUCCPS said 83 per cent of the targeted students with a mean grade of C+ and above in the 2023 KCSE examination had applied.
