A KRA officer was on Saturday stung to death by a swarm of bees while in his car in Majengo Red Brick, Mombasa.

John Muthine Mutwiri was driving his car in the area while in the company of his two friends when the bees attacked.

Mutwiri's friends, Maurice Kinyua and Hezekiel Gikambi, are said to have escaped the wrath of the bees after quickly getting out of the car before being attacked by the bees.

The police say that though the friends managed to escape, Mutwiri was overwhelmed by the bee stings before falling to the ground.

"The bees entered the vehicle and they (Kinyua and Gikambi) alighted to get their safety outside. They all ran to different directions. The driver, Mutwiri was however overwhelmed by the bee stings and fell at a nearby garage where through the assistance of the garage owner Mwaruwa Chikophe, he managed to get a Tuk Tuk and rushed to a hospital for treatment," the police said in a report.

Mutwiri is said to have died on arrival at Coastal General Teaching and Referral Hospital where he was rushed to receive treatment.

The body of the deceased has since been moved to Coastal General Hospital's morgue where it awaits an autopsy exam as the police continue with the investigations.
