In order to strengthen a positive working relationship between the public and the police department, residents of Mbiri village at Njuki-ini ward in Kirinyaga County have volunteered to construct a wall around the area's Police Post.
The residents say they decided to embark on the project to ensure that property belonging to the security officers is safe while they are out on duty at night.
Together with the two police officers stationed at the Mbiri Police post, the residents erected a bamboo tree trunks fence.

"We have coexisted with these officers for years and when we saw how dilapidated the fence was, we decided to lend a hand," said John Muciri a community member who took part in the exercise.
The bamboo tree trunks used to construct the fence were provided by a well-wisher only identified as Ruguru while Kamau Nguya, a businessman within the area provided transport for the trunks from the banks of River Nyamindi.
They also managed to clear an overgrown bush near the police post which is located at the edge of Mbiri shopping centre.
"The area has been very bushy but we have managed the situation," said Kennedy Wachira, a resident.
They however called on Gîchûgû Member of Parliament to organize the construction of a stone wall around the post as well as funding a facelift.
"Whatever we have constructed is only a temporary fence. We would therefore like it to request our MP to help erect a concrete one," said Kimotho Munyi.
In addition to that, the residents are asking the Ministry of Interior to make haste and add the number of officers at that post given the various challenges of insecurity faced in the recent past.
The area has witnessed cases of insecurity where shops, bars and churches have been broken into and property worth thousands of shillings stolen.
"Having only two cops to attend to such a populous and vast area has been quite challenging. We would therefore ask the ministry of interior to look into this issue and address it," said Kimotho.
The community's gesture was confirmed by Kiamutugu OCS John Kirima.
