The Kenyatta University land tussle has taken a new spin after the new council agreed to surrender the land for re-planning the process of utilising the information and documentation of the land as guided by the cabinet.
In a letter directed at the head of public service Joseph Kinyua, the new council chaired by Professor Chrispus Kiamba resolved to surrender the land to the Ministry of Lands.
“I wish to confirm that the University Council met on July 15, 2022, and resolved to surrender the Kenyatta University Land Tile LR No.11026/GRANT 33404 to the Ministry of Lands to enable them to facilitate the re-planning of the above parcel as directed by the Cabinet,” Kiamba stated.

Consequently, the council which was appointed barely two weeks ago directed that acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Waceke Wanjohi surrender the title deed to Ardhi house.
It is however reported that Wanjohi is yet to obtain the original copy of the title deed for the land in question.
The land at the centre of the dispute amounts to 447.3 hectares, in the plan, 190 acres will b used to settle Kamae squatters, 30 acres have been earmarked for allocation to the World Health Organisation (WHO), 10 acres for the Africa Centre for Disease Control and prevention.
Kenyatta University VC sacked over land tussle
The university Vice-Chancellor Prof Paul Wainaina was Tuesday, July 12, 2022, sacked after he refused to hand over part of the institution's land to the government for World Health Organisation to develop an emergency hub.
Addressing the press on Wednesday, July 13, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha said he had nothing to do with Wainaina's sacking insisting that all public land belongs to the government.
"The government may decide that this school, the site is good for a nuclear facility, once it passes through the cabinet, who do you think you are that you are going to say you are not going to follow.
"I do not want to pronounce myself more than that, all land belongs to the government and when they decide to use it for another purpose there is a manner in which it is taken," Magoha stated.
