The country will on Sunday, September 18, 2022, hold a memorial service for the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The service is set to be held at the All Saints Cathedral's main sanctuary, Nairobi from 3 pm in line with a programme released by the church in collaboration with the British High Commission.

Among those expected to attend are Senior state officers and clergy members.

Elizabeth died on Thursday, September 8, 2022, aged 92, becoming the longest-serving monarch after reigning for 70 years.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta had declared four-day national mourning in honour of the departed monarch.

In a presidential proclamation, the former head of state declared that the country will observe a period of national mourning from today's sunset until Monday, September 12, 2022.

Uhuru also directed that the country's flag be flown at half-mast at State House and all Kenyan Diplomatic Missions, Public grounds, Public buildings, Military bases, stations, posts, and all Naval Vessels.

“Throughout her reign, Her Majesty was a close friend of Kenya and the lifeblood of the Commonwealth. Her 70-year reign covered the pre-independence era, the granting of self-governance, the Cold War, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and all the other seminal events leading to the present day,

"In all that, as governments rose and fell, new nations were born, and the geopolitical sands shifted back and forth; Queen Elizabeth II remained our one constant and an unshakeable rock of dedication to duty, grace, sacrifice, public service, and the commitment to God, Country, and Family,”
he stated at the time.

With her death, Charles her eldest son became a king and head of state for 14 Commonwealth realms.

The departed monarch came to the throne in 1952 after her father King George VI died. At the time, she was on tour in Nyeri county.
