World record holder Kelvin Kiptum’s widow Asenath Rotich revealed their planned wedding set for April this year before the athlete's sudden death.

In her tribute during Kiptum's burial at their home in Chepkorio, Keiyo South in Elgeyo Marakwet County on Friday, February 23, 2024, Asenath tearfully disclosed she was set to walk down the aisle before the tragic incident.

“We have been planning for a big day to tie our knots in a colourful wedding ceremony in April 2024, but God’s plans are greater. I will still make my vows of love even in your rest,”  the mother of two tearfully recounted.

She remembered the 24-year-old as the best husband and dedicated father to their children.

“You have been the best husband and father to our children. I will clearly miss your company till we meet again my love. Dance with the angels,” she stated.

Adding; “I promise to gather my strength for the sake of our children. I hope in the spirit world you will inspire me to stand as a pillar to our children.”

Kiptum who set a world record during the 2023 Chicago Marathon died in a road crash after his car veered off the road and hit a tree at Kaptagat on February 11, 2024.

He died alongside his coach Gervais Hakizimana,36, who was laid to rest in Kigali, Rwanda on Wednesday.

President William Ruto and World Athletics head Sebastian Coe were among the dignitaries who joined other mourners for the burial.

Meanwhile, the president has pledged to offer more support to the family of Kiptum by building another house and securing a job for Cheruto.
