President William Ruto, his deputy Rigathi Gachagua have led the government's top echelons to Chepkorio, Elgeyo Marakwet County to attend Kelvin Kitum's funeral service.

Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba ushered in the President, his deputy and other officials into the venue of the funeral service.

Ruto and his entourage, clad in black suits, walked into the venue and went to the tent where the casket bearing the remains of the World Marathon record holder was placed.

The President, his deputy, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and other top officials paid their last respect as they viewed Kiptum's body.

Burial

After the funeral service, Kiptum will be buried on the land he had bought to build his family a home.

The government has been over the last week building a house for Kiptum's widow. The three-bedroom house is ready to be handed over to the family.

It was built in a record six days following an order by President Ruto.

A separate house will be built next to it for his parents.
