Three male adults were brutally killed and two others seriously injured in a tragic incident that occurred on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Ololua village, Olkeriai, Ilbisil division in Kajiado Central Constituency.

Police are investigating the circumstances in which an unidentified man hacked two men aged 69 and 67 years before he was lynched by members of the public.

The suspect is said to have been hired at one of the homes in the village on March 11, 2024, to till the land.

According to witness accounts, the man went on a rampage midmorning March 13, attacking his employer with a panga and hacking to death another man who responded to the distress call.

The man then went to a nearby chief's home welding a bloody panga claiming that the family would report the incident to him.

The armed man attempted to attack the administrator's wife who luckily fled and saved her dear life. The chief was not home at the time of the incident.

The attacker hacked a visually impaired man who was at the chief's home, killing him on the spot.

Members of the public responded to the screams from the chief's home and lynched the attacker.

A 24-year-old lad was seriously injured during the melee.

Confirming the incident, Kajiado County Commander David Mburukua said investigations into the attacks have commenced.

"It is a very sad incident. I want to pass my condolences to the bereaved families for the untimely death of their loved ones. Three lives have been lost in a very bizarre incident. Witnesses are traumatised, it is a serious matter," Mburukua noted.

The police commander added that the deceased attacker had not yet been positively identified - at the time of publishing this article.

"Details about the identity of the deceased suspect are scanty so far. Our preliminary investigations point out that the suspect might have been mentally challenged but we are yet to verify conclusively about his true identity," he stated.

Mburukua further urged members of the public to report any suspicious characters spotted masquerading as job seekers.

"I urge members of the public to closely work with security agencies and report any suspicious characters. Any information given to security agencies will be responded to promptly and treated in confidence," he added.

Osilalei Senior Chief Kiros Ole Sadera said the attacker, who was barely three days in the area, had claimed to be from Meru and was hunting for a job.

"It is tragic to lose three lives in cold-blood murder. Innocent people have died, it is painful. A sad cloud has engulfed the entire Ilbisil Division," Ole Sadera said.

The bodies have since been moved to Kajiado Referral Hospital mortuary.
