JSC appoints Mokaya Frida as Registrar of the Judiciary

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has appointed Mokaya Frida as the new Registrar of the judiciary.

Mokaya's appointment follows a lengthy interviewing process that saw 43 applicants apply for the job and seven shortlisted before the final candidate was selected.

"The Judicial Service Commission advertised the position of Chief Registrar of the Judiciary on October 23, 2023, and received a total of forty-three (43) applications.

"The Commission shortlisted seven (7) candidates who were interviewed on Monday, March 18, 2024. Following deliberation and careful consideration of the candidates based on merit, performance, and suitability for the position, the JSC has appointed Mokaya Frida Boyani as the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary for a five-year term," JSC said in a statement.

Experience

Mokaya is an experienced legal officer, as she boasts over 27 years of experience in that discipline. She served in the JSC since 2012, before her appointment as the new registrar.

Mokaya has been working with the judiciary since 1997, when she served as served as a District Magistrate II, then Resident Magistrate, Senior Resident Magistrate, and Principal Magistrate, and finally as Senior Principal Magistrate. 

She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree attained from the University of Nairobi, a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law, and is also a Certified Public Secretary.

"As the Chief Registrar, Mokaya will serve as the Chief Administrator and Accounting Officer of the Judiciary. She will also be the secretary to the Judicial Service Commission as well as the secretary to the National Council on Administration of Justice.

"The Commission congratulates Mokaya on her appointment and thanks all the candidates, stakeholders, and Kenyans for their participation in the recruitment and selection process," JSC added.
