Police in Isiolo have nabbed four suspects with 30kgs of bhang worth over Ksh1.5M.

The four were arrested on Friday, October 8 by officers stationed at a roadblock around Archers Post on the Isiolo - Marsabit - Moyale highway.

According to Isiolo County Police Commander Geoffrey Omonding, the four were traveling to Nairobi from Ethiopia where the bhang is suspected to have been taken from.

“There four young men whom we have arrested today will lead us to their sponsors who are using them in this crime. These four are just the small fish, we are looking for the big fish so that we can dismantle the cartel,” Omonding said.

The county police commander further cautioned agencies hiring motor vehicles to be careful when hiring out their vehicles since some are used in criminal activities.

“The criminals we have arrested usually hire vehicles which they use to transport bhang,” Omonding said.

In a similar case, a 37-year-old National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer attached to Elgeyo Marakwet County was arraigned in court and charged with being in possession of Cannabis Sativa (bhang), three motor vehicles plate numbers and obtaining money by false pretence.

Simon Wanjau Mwaura, who was arraigned at Milimani law courts, is alleged to have been in possession of bhang valued at Ksh120 which was not used for medical purposes on June 10, 2021.

He was also charged with obtaining Ksh350, 000 by false pretence.
