A 53-year-old woman from Barani village in Mumoni, Kitui County is struggling with raising her daughter's three children including one who is suffering from a mysterious medical condition.

Ngina Nzuu says her daughter, Zipora Syombua Ngina, who was once married sneaked back into her compound in 2019 and left her three children while she (Nzuu) was away.

"On that particular day, I was not at home and when I returned, I found my firstborn daughter had left her three children in my compound including her firstborn son, who has a medical condition," she said.

She said that since then, she has never heard from her again as she doesn't have a phone or any contact that she can use to reach the daughter.

The mother of three has called on well-wishers, the government, or charity organisations to intervene and rescue her from the situation.

"He cannot talk, sit, walk or do anything by himself. I even feed him and take him to the toilet. He has a strange hole in the anus that develops wounds and his lips have since appeared burnt," she narrated

She said she took him to Katse Dispensary within Mumoni sub-county but was referred to Mwingi Level 4 Hospital but could not manage as she didn't even have the bus fare.

Mother wants daughter to go back home

She is calling on Zipora to go back home and assist her to take the child to hospital.

"I really yearn to see him get well. I have shed so many tears for him and that's why I am pleading to all people of goodwill to help me wipe my tears," she said.

Eunice Kithumba, a community health volunteer attached to Katse Dispensary said she visited Ngina's home where she conducted Malezi Bora program and discovered the child needs special care that her grandmother cannot afford.

"Ngina and who is a single parent needs help as the child cannot be left alone for fear of harming himself," she said.
