The former head of the Investigations Bureau at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) John Gachomo has been dismissed as the Director of the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU).

In the unexpected twist that followed barely two days after his appointment Gachomo who has previously served as former Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) boss was recalled following his alleged ties with former DCI boss George Kinoti.

Gachomo was set to take over from the new DCI boss Mohammed Amin who previously headed the IAU.

His appointment was cancelled by Acting Inspector-General of police Noor Gabow on Friday, October 21, 2022.

At the time of the development, Gachomo was all set to assume his position before he was recalled at Jogoo House, Nairobi.

It is reported that Gachomo's position will be taken over by the current IAU deputy director Esther Ng'ang'a awaiting further directions.

"Gachomo was recalled and we will have the deputy director there take over for now," a source told a local publication.
