Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has visited Kapsabet Boys High School after an accident that claimed the lives of a teacher and a student.

In a statement after visiting the school, Gachagua announced that the government would offer full support to the school following the loss.

Gachagua has also urged motorists and other road users to be vigilant on the road to reduce the number of accidents happening on Kenyan roads and subsequently, fatalities.

The institution lost a student and a teacher following a road accident along the Kabarnet-Marigat highway in Baringo County while on an educational trip to Lake Bogoria.

"Our prayers and deepest sympathies are with the students, teachers, and parents of Kapsabet High School for the tragic road accident on Saturday, that claimed the lives of a student and a teacher," Gachagua said.

"This morning, on behalf of Presiden William Ruto, I, and my family, I commiserated with the students and members of the School fraternity and assured them of full Government support during this difficult time. We pray for a quick recovery for the injured who are receiving treatment in various hospitals in Baringo and Uasin Gishu."

The Deputy President said many accidents are occurring due to failure to observe traffic rules.

"My plea to motorists please can you follow the traffic rules. These accidents can be avoided if we are so vigilant and careful, moreso the drivers ferrying the school-going children," he added.

Gachagua who also delivered President William Ruto's condolence message encouraged the family, friends, and relatives to remain strong during this difficult moment.

"As the government we stand with you and we will help during this difficult time. The wreckage school bus will be also replaced immediately. I have also come with the condolences of President William Ruto who is an alumnus of this school," Gachagua noted.

Gachagua was accompanied by Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei and Nandi County MPs who regretted the passing of hardworking Geography teacher Kennedy Mwanja with his student.
