Nandi Governor Sang mourns Kapsabet Boys’ teacher, student who perished in road accident

Kapsabet Boys High School in Nandi County is mourning the deaths of a student and a teacher who perished in a road accident in the Patkawanin area of Baringo County on Saturday, March 16, 2024. 

The two died while other students sustained injuries after the bus they were travelling in was involved in a road accident along the Kabarnet-Marigat highway.

The form two learners and their teachers, who were aboard four buses, were on a geographical trip to Lake Bogoria in Baringo South.

While confirming the incident, Baringo County Commissioner Stephen Kutwa said among those who died were a learner and a teacher.

Following the accident, Nandi County Governor Stephen Sang rushed to Kabarnet County Referral Hospital and Marigat, where the students had been admitted for medication, to assess their situation.

The ill-fated bus that had 63 people on board; 61 learners, a teacher, and the driver, lost control on the winding road at Patkawanin, hitting a guard rail before rolling several times down the slope to land in a ditch.

Sang's condolences

"It is so unfortunate that this has happened. Five other students were critically injured. We wish them a quick recovery. We also say sorry and my condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones in the accident," Sang said. 

The Nandi County boss lauded the emergency team who responded quickly after the accident, which ensured the safety of other students towards the health facilities. 

The five students who were critically injured have been referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret for further treatment.
