The woman who breached Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang’I ‘s security in Nyamira had on April 12, 2018, lied to former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko that she was deaf and dumb, K24 Digital can now reveal.

Investigations by this reporter, equally reveal that Christine Nyakundi who hails from Itumbe in Kisii County tricked Sonko that she needed a kidney transplant as well.

A video in our possession clearly captures the events as they unfolded.

It all starts with Nyakundi trying to fight her way through Sonko’s security as he dashes to board a waiting vehicle.

The commotion catches the attention of Sonko who asks his security team to allow her to have a word with him.

Nyakundi, on seeing the politician, excitedly greets him and starts communicating in sign language.

From the look of things, Sonko does not understand what she is trying to communicate and they decide to seek an interpreter.

All that time, Nyakundi who has attracted the attention of everyone at the scene is directed to a lady who assists in interpreting her message to Sonko.

The interpreter then informs the then governor that the lady was saying that she was sick and needed ksh110,000 which was to be used for medical purposes.

“She is saying that she has a medical condition that needs attention but she can’t afford hospital bills,” the sign language interpreter told Sonko.

To prove her point, Nyakundi goes ahead and dishes out a handwritten letter that explains her condition and hands it to the politician.

As the governor takes his time to peruse the letter, Nyakundi reaches to one of the bags she is carrying and she is seen sipping some liquid drug.

She then gets the bottle back to her bag and brings out some more tablets. At this point, majority of Sonko’s handlers agree that indeed she needs quick medical attention.

After some time, Sonko asks the interpreter to keep the lady company until he comes back.

More than three years later, on Tuesday, September 7, she was at it again. This time around aiming at Interior CS Fred Matiang’I during his Nyamira tour, but she was whisked away by police officers as she tried to reach the CS.

In what is obvious that she never thought cameras captured her during the Sonko incident in 2018, Nyakundi was quick to speak about the Nyamira incident forgetting that 'she’s supposed to be deaf and dumb'.

To further confirm, this reporter contacted her on Saturday, September 11 and she quickly answered the call and started talking.

Asked why she opted to go to City Hall and lie to the then Nairobi governor, the lady admitted to have lied but defended herself that she suffers from Asthma and since she had stayed in the cold for long her respiratory system blocked, hence the decision to use sign language when she met Sonko.

“I was not able to talk at the time since my lungs had totally blocked because I overstayed in the cold as I waited for the governor. I lost my voice too,” she said, adding that those referring to her as a con don't know what she was really going through.

However, her argument is vehemently opposed by those who know her in person.

For instance, James Sindiga, a Kisii resident said that he was shocked when he also saw the video where she was pretending to be dumb.

“I looked at her closely and wondered why she was pulling such a stunt,” said Sindiga.

Naftal Obwocha also a local in Kisii in a comment on social media told off a Kisii County CEC who was asking members of the public to contribute money for Nyakundi.

“Stop this brother. You are lying. Stop pretending, that lady harasses people for no apparent reason,” he said.
